Pittsburgh Steelers Sign Linebacker Patrick Queen To Three Year Deal

The Pittsburgh Steelers have made a significant move in bolstering their defense by signing linebacker Patrick Queen from the Baltimore Ravens to a three-year deal worth $41 million. The deal, reported by ESPN insiders Adam Schefter and Marcus Spears, brings Queen, a young and promising linebacker, to the Steelers’ roster.

Patrick Queen, a second-team All-Pro, had a standout season with the Ravens in 2023, recording 133 tackles, 3 1/2 sacks, and an interception. His addition addresses a longstanding need at inside linebacker for the Steelers since the unfortunate career-ending injury to Ryan Shazier back in 2017.

Concerns over injuries to Steelers’ inside linebackers such as Robert Spillane and Buddy Johnson in the previous season have made the acquisition of Queen a vital one. With Spillane recovering from knee surgery and Johnson dealing with an Achilles injury, Patrick Queen’s arrival provides stability and talent at the linebacker position.

Queen will partner with Devin Bush, who led the Steelers in tackles last season, forming a formidable inside linebacker duo for the team. This move also allows for a stress-free recovery for Robert Spillane in time for the upcoming season opener.

Alongside landing Patrick Queen, the Steelers have been active in securing key talent during the offseason. The addition of nine-time Pro Bowl quarterback Lamar Jackson on a team-friendly one-year deal has also made waves in the NFL community.

General Manager Omar Khan has showcased strategic acumen by acquiring impactful players like Patrick Queen and Lamar Jackson while managing to keep financial flexibility. This bold move signifies the Steelers’ commitment to building a competitive team for the upcoming season.

Pittsburgh’s linebacker history, marred by injuries and unsuccessful signings, sees a turn with the arrival of Patrick Queen. The young linebacker brings versatility and playmaking ability that align well with the Steelers’ defensive scheme.

Queen’s presence in the AFC North, a division featuring top-tier talents like Lamar Jackson and Joe Burrow, adds an extra layer of excitement and competition to the upcoming NFL season. This move solidifies the Steelers’ defense and sets a strong foundation for success in the competitive AFC North division.
