Pittsburgh Steelers Nfl Defensive Line Daniel Ekuale

PITTSBURGH, Pa. — The Pittsburgh Steelers have reinforced their defensive line by signing veteran defensive tackle Daniel Ekuale, as announced by his agent Blake Baratz on social media. The move comes as the Steelers seek to fill the gap left by Larry Ogunjobi‘s departure.

Ekuale, who turns 31 later this month, is a proven asset, having started 16 games for the New England Patriots last season. He recorded 52 tackles, two tackles for loss, and one sack during his tenure. In total, he has appeared in 57 games, notching 91 tackles, eight tackles for loss, and six sacks throughout his career.

“I see Daniel as a cornerstone for us moving forward,” said Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin. “His experience and ability to read plays will enhance our defensive strategies significantly.”

The Steelers faced a significant challenge in replacing Ogunjobi, who was released just as free agency began. Ogunjobi subsequently signed with the Buffalo Bills but faced a six-game suspension for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing drugs policy.

With the 2025 NFL Draft approaching, the Steelers are expected to continue strengthening their defensive lineup. They recently met with several highly-touted defensive tackles, including Kenneth Grant from Michigan and Walter Nolen from Ole Miss, who could potentially step into starting roles.

“No matter what happens in the draft, we feel confident with Daniel on board,” said Steelers General Manager Omar Khan. “He provides depth and experience that will be crucial for our upcoming season.”

Ekuale joins a robust defensive line that now includes veterans like Cam Heyward, Keeanu Benton, Montravius Adams, DeMarvin Leal, Dean Lowry, and Logan Lee. The addition of Ekuale not only adds depth but could also present a reliable starting option based on the team’s draft outcomes.

The Steelers are aiming for a resurgence in the upcoming season, and fans are eager to see how this signing will contribute to their defensive strategy.
