Police Respond to Disorder in Southend-on-Sea

Six people have been arrested in Southend-on-Sea as police deal with some disorder in the area. Essex Police announced the arrests this evening.

David Burton-Sampson, the local Labour MP for Southend West and Leigh, advised residents to stay away from the area for their safety. He emphasized the ongoing situation and the need for caution.

In response to recent events, Essex Police set up a dispersal order on Southend seafront. This order gives officers extra powers to manage anti-social behaviour and it is in effect until 8:00 PM BST on Wednesday.

The areas covered by the dispersal order include popular spots such as Marine Parade, Pier Hill, High Street, Western Esplanade, and both train stations in the city. There have been previous issues with groups of young people gathering at the seafront, prompting these measures.

Chief Supt Morgan Cronin highlighted the importance of community support in their efforts. He mentioned that officers have responded to reports from the public and encouraged anyone with information to speak to the police.

Daniel Cowan, the Labour leader of Southend City Council, noted an influx of young people in the area. He took to social media to urge calm and suggested that people avoid Jubilee beach while the police manage the situation.

For now, CCTV and police are keeping a close eye on developments, with more officers being deployed to ensure safety in line with the dispersal order.
