Ap Top 25 College Basketball Rankings December 2024

The latest AP Top 25 college basketball poll has seen significant shifts, particularly with the University of Connecticut (UConn) experiencing a dramatic drop. After a disappointing 0-3 week at the Maui Invitational, where they lost to three unranked teams, UConn fell 23 spots from No. 2 to No. 25. Despite this, the Huskies managed to stay in the rankings, extending their streak of being included in the AP Top 25 since the preseason rankings of the 2022-23 season.

Kansas retained its top spot for the fifth consecutive week, although its grip on the No. 1 position loosened slightly. The Jayhawks earned 35 of the 61 first-place votes, down from 51 the previous week. Auburn, which won the Maui Invitational title, moved up two spots to No. 2 and garnered 26 first-place votes. Auburn’s strong performance also saw them accumulate 1,490 points, just shy of Kansas’s 1,499 points.

Tennessee and Kentucky both moved into the top five, with Tennessee jumping to No. 3 and Kentucky to No. 4. Marquette also benefited from UConn’s fall, rising to No. 5. Other notable movements include Duke holding steady at No. 9 and Alabama entering the top 10 at No. 10.

In the women’s college basketball rankings, UCLA maintained its No. 1 spot with an undefeated 8-0 record. UConn women’s basketball team held the No. 2 spot, while South Carolina and Texas followed closely at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively. TCU made a significant jump, moving eight spots to No. 9 after a notable win over then-No. 3 Notre Dame.
