AP Poll Shakeup: Major Upsets and Movements After Week 10 in College Football
The latest AP Top 25 college football poll is set to undergo significant changes following a tumultuous Week 10, marked by several high-profile upsets and key victories. Oregon, remaining undefeated, solidified its position at the top by defeating Michigan 38-17. This win keeps the Ducks as one of the top contenders for the national championship.
One of the most notable upsets was Penn State‘s loss to Ohio State. The No. 3 Penn State Nittany Lions fell to the No. 4 Ohio State Buckeyes 20-13, which is expected to drop Penn State in the rankings. This loss extends Ohio State’s winning streak against Penn State to eight games, the longest in the series history.
Texas A&M, which had recently jumped into the AP top 10, suffered a significant loss to South Carolina, 44-20. This defeat is Texas A&M’s largest loss as an AP top-10 team against an unranked opponent in school history and will likely result in a substantial drop in the rankings.
The University of Texas, currently ranked No. 6, was idle during Week 10 but stands to benefit from Penn State’s loss. The Longhorns could potentially move up in the rankings as a result.
Other notable movements include Indiana‘s rise after a dominant 47-10 win over Michigan State, and SMU‘s significant jump following a 48-25 victory over Pitt. Indiana is now 9-0 and has won its first nine games by 14 or more points, a rare feat in the Big Ten.
The first College Football Playoff (CFP) rankings are set to be released on November 5, marking a crucial point in the season as teams vie for spots in the expanded 12-team playoff format.
