Portland Timbers Vs Austin Fc Matchday

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Timbers will host Western Conference rivals Austin FC on Saturday, March 1, at 7:30 PM PT at Providence Park. This match marks the Timbers’ second game of the 2025 MLS season and their first home match after suffering a 4-1 defeat to the Vancouver Whitecaps last week.

The Timbers are coming off a challenging start to the season, where they struggled with injuries to key players including Jonathan Rodriguez and Santiago Moreno. Despite these setbacks, the team is determined to turn things around with fresh faces this weekend, including new Designated Player, Myrto Uzuni, who showcased notable talent in his debut appearance last week.

“We have a strong team built to compete, and we can turn this around,” said Timbers head coach Giovanni Savarese. “Austin is a tough opponent, but playing at home with our fans gives us an advantage.”

Portland last faced Austin FC on October 2, 2024, when they fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat. With five wins, three losses, and one draw across their last nine clashes, the Timbers hope to improve their home record when the two teams meet again.

In preparation for the match, the Timbers are offering special promotions, including commemorative 50th anniversary popcorn buckets and beverage cups that feature themes highlighting significant moments in the club’s history, such as their 2015 MLS Cup victory.

Broadcasters will carry the game live on Apple TV, available in both English and Spanish. Local radio coverage will be provided by 750 The Game in English and La GranD 1150 AM/93.5 FM in Spanish.

As the matchday approaches, the Timbers face a litmus test against an Austin team that opened the season with a 1-0 victory over Sporting Kansas City. The Verde and Black aim to maintain their momentum and are bolstered by recent signings, including Ilie Sanchez and Brandon Vazquez.

“We are focused and believe we can take advantage of our style of play,” stated Austin FC head coach Nico Estevez after their opening win. “Portland will be tough, but we are ready for the challenge.”

The stakes are high as both teams look to secure vital points early in the season. With fan support, the Timbers hope to channel their history of resilience to claim their first victory of the season.
