Portland Trail Blazers Criticized For Season Woes And Ayton Absence

The Portland Trail Blazers are facing criticism for their disappointing season and recent absence of starting center Deandre Ayton. Ayton has missed 12 straight games, 11 of which were due to tendinitis in his knee. However, his absence from a recent game was the result of icy conditions preventing him from reaching the arena.

Sean Beckwith of Deadspin expressed incredulity over Ayton’s inability to make it to the game, considering others were able to do so. Beckwith questioned why Ayton couldn’t have simply asked for a ride from one of the many employees who managed to reach the Moda Center. He called the situation “un-f*cking-real.”

Beckwith’s criticism didn’t stop with Ayton. He also targeted Blazers General Manager Joe Cronin for the team’s poor performance. Beckwith referred to off-season deals involving former franchise superstar Damian Lillard as “quarters on the dollar.” He further criticized the team for its lackluster on-court display, claiming that every player on the roster is underperforming and ready to be dealt.

Blazers Head Coach Chauncey Billups also faced scrutiny from Beckwith. The author accused Billups of not winning or developing talent and suggested that his relationship with Cronin is the only reason he remains employed. Beckwith concluded that the team’s front office is more concerned with acquiring draft assets than with the team’s success.

It remains to be seen whether the criticism will have any impact on the Trail Blazers’ future decisions or improve their performance. However, it highlights the frustration felt by fans and observers as the team continues to struggle.
