Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has conceded that even a player of Mohamed Salah‘s caliber would struggle to replicate his Liverpool form if he were part of the current Spurs squad. Speaking ahead of the first leg of the Carabao Cup semifinal against Liverpool on Wednesday, Postecoglou highlighted the challenges facing his team, which has dropped to 12th in the Premier League and lost three of its last four matches.

Salah, who has scored 21 goals and provided 17 assists in all competitions this season, is widely regarded as one of the world’s best players. However, Postecoglou suggested that the Egyptian winger would find it difficult to maintain his high standards in Tottenham’s current setup. “Mo is a world-class player, but if you put him in our team now, I’m not sure he’ll have that same level of performance because of the situation we’re in as a group,” Postecoglou told reporters.

The Spurs manager emphasized the importance of a cohesive team structure, which he believes is currently lacking. “You need a team that’s in good form, creating opportunities, playing on the front foot, having a really solid foundation of a defense that is cohesive. None of these things exist at the moment,” he said. “We’re relying on individual moments.”

Postecoglou also drew a comparison with Tottenham captain Son Heung-min, suggesting that the South Korean forward would thrive in Liverpool’s current squad. “I’d hazard to say that if you put Sonny in Liverpool’s team, I reckon his goalscoring return would be decent,” he said. Son has scored just seven goals in all competitions this season, a far cry from his usual output.

Tottenham’s struggles have been compounded by injuries and suspensions, with key players Pape Sarr and James Maddison unavailable for the semifinal clash. New signing Anthony Kinsky could make his debut in goal, adding another layer of uncertainty to the team’s lineup.

Liverpool, meanwhile, enters the match in strong form despite a recent hiccup against Manchester United. Manager Arne Slot has named a full-strength squad for the first leg, signaling his intent to secure a decisive advantage ahead of the return fixture. The Reds have lost only twice away from home all season, making them heavy favorites against a struggling Spurs side.

The match, scheduled for 8 p.m. at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, promises high stakes for both teams. For Postecoglou, it represents a chance to salvage a difficult season, while Liverpool aims to continue its pursuit of silverware under Slot’s leadership.
