President Murmu Highlights India’s Progress in Historic Republic Day Speech
President Droupadi Murmu addressed the nation on the eve of the 75th Republic Day, acknowledging the period as a time of “epochal change”. She highlighted India’s best-ever performance in the Asian Games, celebrated the completion of 75 years of Independence during the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, and emphasized the significance of the Constitution in establishing democracy.
The President expressed gratitude to the leaders and officials who contributed to the framing of the inspiring Constitution. She urged citizens to abide by the Fundamental Duties enshrined in the Constitution to propel India towards becoming a developed nation by its centenary of Independence.
In her speech, President Murmu emphasized the foundational values and principles of India, such as democracy, diversity, equality, justice, and freedom. She paid tribute to the advocate of social justice, Shri Karpoori Thakur Ji, whose birth centenary celebration recently concluded. The President highlighted the unity among the 1.4 billion citizens of India, expressing co-existence as a source of happiness.
President Murmu reflected on significant events of the past year, including India’s presidency of the G20 Summit, the historic Women’s Reservation Bill, and achievements in space exploration. She commended the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for its successful missions and the enthusiasm it has generated among the youth, inspiring more students, particularly young women, to pursue careers in science and technology.
The President also noted India’s confident economic growth, with the highest GDP growth rate among major economies, attributing it to the farsighted planning that has also fueled inclusive development. She highlighted the government’s welfare initiatives, especially during the pandemic, supporting the vulnerable population.
