Princeton’s Wafle Picks USC Over Ohio State in Major Commitment

Princeton, NJ – Defensive lineman Wafle has committed to Lincoln Riley and the University of Southern California (USC), turning down offers from Ohio State and others. The blue-chip prospect solidified his decision just days after an official visit to Los Angeles.
The 6-foot-5 1/2, 255-pound player is currently ranked as the No. 10 edge rusher and No. 52 overall prospect by On3 Industry. Wafle also gave strong consideration to Penn State, Texas, and Florida during his recruitment process.
After an impressive visit last weekend, USC appeared to be the frontrunner for Wafle’s commitment. However, Ohio State countered with an enhanced NIL package early Wednesday morning. USC responded with a competitive offer, and ultimately, Wafle chose the Trojans. Sources indicate that his NIL package is estimated between $2.2 and $2.6 million over two years.
Wafle’s recruitment involved defensive line coaches Eric Henderson and Shaun Nua, with significant input from defensive coordinator D’Anton Lynn. “The people, the development,” Wafle stated regarding his decision. “Coach Nua, Coach Henny, Coach Lynn are just genuine great humans.”
His father, Dave Wafle, described their visit to USC as unforgettable. “Coach Henny and Coach Nua were great. Coach Lynn, we had some really great meetings with those guys. To actually sit down and have a one-on-one with Coach Riley was special,” he remarked.
He added, “There is a lot of energy around USC. I feel there is a lot of momentum. Things are happening at USC for sure.” During his official visit, Wafle also spent time with program legends Marcus Allen and Ronnie Lott, calling the experience “surreal” and “super cool.”
As a junior, Wafle was one of the most disruptive players in the country, tallying 53 tackles, including 18 for loss and eight sacks, alongside eight quarterback hurries in just nine games. Besides his final choices, he also showed interest in Oklahoma and North Carolina. This story was contributed by On3’s Pete Nakos.
