Priscilla Presley Sets the Record Straight in New Memoir

Beverly Hills, CA – In a revealing interview, Priscilla Presley spoke candidly about her life since the death of her ex-husband, Elvis Presley, and addressed rumors surrounding her family. Now 80 years old, she discussed her experiences during a cover shoot for PEOPLE.
Priscilla, who first met Elvis in 1959 at the age of 14, clarified several misconceptions about her family, including the persistent rumor that Elvis is still alive. “I wish he was still alive,” she remarked, adding that the stories about family disputes are “untruthful.” Her granddaughter, Riley Keough, is the sole heir to the Elvis estate, which has led to speculation about a feud.
“Riley and I have never had a problem,” Priscilla said. “We support each other.” This statement comes as both Priscilla and Riley face a $50 million lawsuit from former business partners alleging fraud and breach of contract. Priscilla is countersuing for the theft of $1 million, further complicating the situation.
In her forthcoming memoir, titled *Softly, as I Leave You: Life After Elvis*, set to be released on September 23, Priscilla opens up about the challenges she faced after Elvis’s death in 1977 and recounts her sorrow over the tragic death of her daughter, Lisa Marie, earlier this year.
“It was the second saddest day of my life, other than losing Elvis,” she stated, highlighting the emotional toll of her daughter’s passing and her own responsibilities as a mother and grandmother. She expressed deep sorrow for having to make the difficult decision to take Lisa Marie off life support.
Despite life’s challenges, Priscilla emphasizes the importance of family and love. “That’s what makes me happy: knowing everyone is doing well,” she said. As a great-grandmother, she finds joy in Riley’s children, affirming, “I love her babies,” and sharing moments of joy she experiences with them.
Describing her daily life, Priscilla noted that she feels youthful and active, saying, “I don’t feel 80 at all. If anything, I feel 25.” She continues to work, eager to maintain her creativity and connection to her family’s legacy.
Priscilla’s memoir promises to shed more light on her journey, offering insights into the life she led alongside the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll and the challenges she has overcome in the years since.
