Stuttgart Psg Champions League Match Police Arrest

STUTTGART, Germany — German police arrested 59 Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) fans on Tuesday ahead of a high-stakes Champions League match against VfB Stuttgart, citing concerns over planned violent clashes between rival supporters. The arrests were part of a coordinated effort to prevent riots and ensure public safety during the game.

Authorities conducted targeted checks at train stations and hotels, detaining the French fans after discovering masking materials and other items that suggested preparations for violence. The fans will remain in custody until Thursday morning, following a judge’s approval, to prevent any disturbances during or after the match.

“Anyone who travels to Stuttgart to commit violent crimes off the pitch will be taken out of the game,” said Carsten Höfler, vice president of Stuttgart Police. He emphasized that the measures were necessary to maintain order and protect both fans and residents.

In addition to the arrests, 47 Stuttgart fans identified as “high-risk” were issued banning orders, preventing them from entering the city center or the Bad Cannstatt neighborhood, where the stadium is located. Police reported that some of these fans were carrying weapons and attempting to spy on PSG supporters.

The match, scheduled for Wednesday evening, is crucial for both teams, as they are tied with 10 points each in the group stage. A win for either side would secure a spot in the play-offs, while a loss could lead to elimination.

Stuttgart Police worked closely with their counterparts in Paris to identify and apprehend the French hooligans. “Through intensive investigations and in close cooperation with the Paris police, the French hooligans were found at the main train station and at various hotels in Stuttgart,” the police said in a statement.

This incident follows a similar confrontation on Tuesday, where Stuttgart and Saint-Etienne fans attempted to clash with PSG supporters but were intercepted by police. Authorities remain on high alert to ensure the match proceeds without further incidents.
