WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WISH) — Purdue University is actively strengthening its basketball roster ahead of the upcoming season as Liam Murphy, a forward from North Florida, has announced his transfer to the Boilermakers.

Murphy, a Staten Island, New York, native, had a standout season at North Florida, where he averaged 13 points per game while boasting an impressive three-point shooting percentage of 42.3%. He also contributed 3.3 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game, leading the Atlantic Sun Conference in three-point shooting.

Standing at 6 feet 7 inches and weighing 220 pounds, Murphy brings a solid physical presence to Purdue’s frontcourt. Prior to his tenure at North Florida, he played two seasons at Columbia, where he averaged 9.9 points and 4.0 rebounds per game, with a three-point shooting percentage of 34.3%.

Purdue also added Israeli point guard Omer Mayer on Wednesday, marking a significant addition to their backcourt. Murphy is the second player Purdue has acquired through the transfer portal this offseason, following South Dakota State center Oscar Cluff.

In a notable contrast to last season, where Purdue did not add players from the transfer portal, these recent acquisitions signify a strategic shift for the program, which aims to bolster its roster following a successful season that saw them reach the Sweet 16 for the sixth time in the last eight tournaments.

The Boilermakers were eliminated in the Sweet 16 by Houston during the tournament held in Indianapolis, further motivating the coaching staff to seek improvements ahead of the 2025 season.
