Toby Tarrant Pedalo Challenge River Wey

Radio presenter Toby Tarrant is undertaking a challenging charity event that involves traveling on a giant unicorn pedalo for at least eight hours a day. Tarrant’s 56-mile journey, originally planned along the River Thames, was rerouted to commence on the River Wey due to unfavorable weather conditions and strong currents. Upon completing 40 miles on the River Wey, Tarrant will merge onto the Thames and conclude the expedition in Putney on Friday morning.

Toby Tarrant, known for his role as a host on Radio X, embarked on this physically demanding venture on Monday, October 7, setting off from a local wharf. By day two, starting from Send on the River Wey, he acknowledged the toll the journey was taking on him, with deteriorating weather further exacerbating the difficulty of the task. “The last four hours were torture; I just hit an absolute wall,” Tarrant admitted in an interview, describing the physical and mental challenges he faces.

The purpose of Tarrant’s “Tarrant vs the Thames: One Wey or Another” challenge is to raise funds for Global Radio’s Make Some Noise charity, which supports a myriad of UK-based small charities, including foodbanks and domestic abuse support services. Despite the wet and soggy conditions, Tarrant expressed gratitude for passing the £70,000 mark in donations, doubling his initial fundraising goal.

On the morning of day three, Tarrant joined The Chris Moyles Show, where he was informed of his fundraising success. “I’d like to beat what I raised for the marathon, which was £35,000,” he stated. However, to his surprise, host Chris Moyles revealed he had raised over £70,000 so far. This news left Tarrant emotional and thankful for the overwhelming support from contributors across the UK.

The funds raised will provide crucial support to various causes, including aiding bereavement centers and homeless charities. Tarrant expressed immense gratitude to his supporters, noting that he “would not have got anywhere near that number” without their help.

Listeners can follow Tarrant’s progress through live updates on the “Tarrant vs the Thames: One Wey or Another” tracker and contribute to the charity at any time. His journey has captured the attention of many, contributing to the significant fundraising achievement.
