Raducanu to Face Zarazua in Wimbledon Opener after Alexandrova Withdrawal
22nd seed Emma Raducanu will kick off her Wimbledon campaign against lucky loser Renata Zarazua following the withdrawal of Ekaterina Alexandrova due to illness.
The former US Open champion Raducanu has been in fine form leading up to her first-round match, reaching the semifinals in Nottingham and the quarterfinals in Eastbourne.
Raducanu gained confidence in June with her debut win against a top-10 player, signaling her readiness for the grass-court Grand Slam.
Zarazua, who lost in the Wimbledon qualifiers, gets a second chance as a lucky loser to face Raducanu on the prestigious Centre Court.
This match marks Raducanu’s return to Wimbledon after a challenging year that saw her undergo surgeries on both wrists and her ankle in 2023.
Meanwhile, Zarazua, who made it to the 2024 French Open, will be looking to make an impact against the talented British player after her first-round exit at Roland Garros.
