Rafael Devers Welcomes New Chapter with Giants After Red Sox Trade

SAN FRANCISCO — Rafael Devers walked into the San Francisco Giants‘ clubhouse alongside Barry Bonds, the franchise’s legendary home run hitter. During an introduction Tuesday, Devers was excited to join the team after being traded from the Boston Red Sox.
The trade, which occurred after a long standoff with Red Sox management, marked the end of Devers’ time in Boston. On Sunday, hours after hitting a home run against the New York Yankees, Devers learned he had been moved to the Giants. Boston fans, despite disappointment over the decision, cheered for him until the end.
Devers, thrilled for the fresh start, is eager to excel with the Giants. “That’s in the past now,” he stated about his time with Boston. “I’m eager to go out there and play and see what I can do.” Following the completion of a significant $331 million contract in January, Devers aims to make a strong impact in his new city.
Giants President of Baseball Operations Buster Posey emphasized the team’s goal of contending for a championship, likening them to the successful Giants’ teams of recent years. The Giants are dealing with struggles in their lineup, particularly in generating power, which Devers is expected to help improve.
After transitioning to San Francisco, Devers has expressed his willingness to adapt to any position. The Giants plan to gradually get him back into fielding, a change from his recent role as a designated hitter.
Devers looks forward to reuniting with the Red Sox, who will visit Oracle Park soon. He has been performing well this season, batting .271 with 14 home runs and 57 RBIs. As he embarks on this new journey, Devers emphasized his commitment, saying, “The Giants brought me here for a reason, and I will give 100%.”
