AR Rahman and Wife Saira Banu Separate After 29 Years of Marriage
Acclaimed music composer AR Rahman and his wife, Saira Banu, have announced their separation after nearly three decades of marriage. The news was confirmed through a statement released by Saira Banu’s lawyer, Vandana Shah, on Monday.
The statement highlighted that the decision to separate was made after significant emotional strain in their relationship. Despite their deep love for each other, the couple found that the tensions and difficulties had created an insurmountable gap between them, which neither party felt able to bridge at this time.
AR Rahman and Saira Banu were married in 1995 in an arranged marriage, which was fixed by Rahman’s mother. At the time, Rahman was 29 years old and busy with his career, including working on films like “Rangeela” in Bombay. He had previously mentioned in an interview with Simi Garewal that he did not have the time to search for a bride himself and relied on his mother to find a suitable partner.
The couple has three children together: daughters Khatija and Raheema, and a son named Ameen. Saira Banu emphasized that the decision to separate was made out of pain and agony and requested privacy and understanding from the public during this challenging time.
