Ahmedabad, India — Indian cricket stars Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan will miss the second India A match against the England Lions, which is set to take place in Northampton from June 6 to 9. Their absence is due to their later departure with the main Indian team.

Meanwhile, KL Rahul will participate in the match to gain match practice. Rahul has requested to leave earlier and is scheduled to travel to England on Monday, ahead of the fixture.

Both Gill and Sudharsan have been standout players in the IPL 2025 season, with Sudharsan currently leading the tournament with 759 runs in 15 matches and holding the Orange Cap. Gill has also put up an impressive performance, scoring 650 runs at an average of 50.00.

Despite their successful run with the Gujarat Titans, both players this season, Gill’s team was knocked out of the IPL after losing to the Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator. Gill will hold a pre-departure press conference in Mumbai with India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir.

A source stated, “Both Sai and Gill have been training with the red ball over the last few days. After a long tournament, they need some rest and recovery.”

With Gill and Sudharsan out, the remaining squad members will only have a four-day intra-squad game scheduled for June 13-16 to prepare ahead of the first Test against England at Headingley, Leeds, starting June 20.

Rahul chose to play the India A match due to unexpected rain in Mumbai, which affected his practice routine. He is expected to open the innings alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal in the first Test.

In other updates, Yudhvir Singh from the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association has been named as the Indian team’s manager for the England tour.
