Raiders Eye Future with Tom Brady’s Draft Influence

LAS VEGAS, Nevada — As the 2025 NFL Draft approaches, the Las Vegas Raiders are actively evaluating their future direction, particularly regarding their quarterback situation. With veteran Geno Smith recently signed and a minority ownership from NFL legend Tom Brady, speculation is mounting about who the Raiders might target with their sixth overall pick.
Many analysts believe the team could be looking to draft a quarterback in the coming days. ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky has pointed to Jaxson Dart, a former Ole Miss quarterback, as a potentially transformative pick for the franchise. “For me, he’s the guy that two or three years from now we look back and go, man, people were wrong on him, he’s the steal of the draft essentially,” Orlovsky stated during his appearance on “Get Up.”
Dart has impressed scouts throughout his college career, showcasing notable physical attributes and a strong understanding of the game. However, it seems less likely the Raiders will use their top pick on a quarterback after securing Smith. The team’s focus may instead turn to a quarterback in the later rounds.
Meanwhile, another name generating buzz in Las Vegas is Shedeur Sanders, a standout QB linked to the Raiders. Recently, Sanders conveyed his commitment to improving the team on “The Rush” podcast, hosted by Raiders star Maxx Crosby. “I feel like if you study me, and you study everything that I’ve done in my career, you’re going to get a consistent player day in and day out,” Sanders claimed.
As the draft draws closer, reports indicate that Tom Brady is particularly keen on Alabama‘s Jalen Milroe, known for his incredible speed and athleticism. Cleveland Browns GM Andrew Berry noted Milroe’s potential, stating he might be “the only quarterback when he gets in the NFL, who’s faster than Lamar.” Milroe’s electric performance in college has opened up discussions on whether he could be a viable project in Las Vegas, especially under Smith’s mentorship.
Additionally, Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty has emerged as a top running back prospect, boasting impressive stats of 2,601 rushing yards in the previous season. Jeanty represents a critical opportunity for the Raiders, who have struggled to establish a solid ground game. Team executives have expressed enthusiasm about the prospect of adding Jeanty, with even personal anecdotes from staff members highlighting the sentiment.
As the Raiders prepare for the draft, questions linger about who they will select to reshape their franchise for years to come, all while keeping a close eye on Tom Brady’s influence in the decision-making process.
