Raiders’ Preseason Opener Recap
The Las Vegas Raiders kicked off their preseason with a thrilling game against the Minnesota Vikings. Quarterback Aidan O'Connell led the Raiders’ offense in a strong start, completing 7 of 9 passes for 76 yards during the opening drive. His favorite targets were two key players who combined for six of his completions, helping the team score first with a 31-yard field goal from Daniel Carlson.
On the defensive end, cornerback Maxx Crosby showcased his talent, making a crucial interception in the second quarter. Thanks to pressure from the Raiders’ front seven, Vikings’ quarterback JJ McCarthy made a hurried throw that Crosby capitalized on, demonstrating why he’s considered a ballhawk.
After O’Connell’s impressive first drive, veteran quarterback Daniel Carlson took the field in the second quarter and drove the ball forward with ease. His performance included a notable 29-yard completion to Cole Fotheringham and a successful 20-yard touchdown pass to DJ Turner, marking a significant moment in the game.
Special teams brought excitement as well, with a standout play occurring when Vikings rookie kicker Will Reichard attempted a 36-yard field goal. The kick was blocked by one of the Raiders’ defensive linemen, allowing the play to be turned into a 56-yard field goal from Carlson just before halftime, leading the Raiders to a 20-7 advantage.
