Gardner Minshew Nfl Quarterback

LAS VEGAS, March 5, 2025 — The Las Vegas Raiders announced they will release quarterback Gardner Minshew when the new league year begins on March 12, according to NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero. This decision signifies a fresh start for the team under new leadership, including minority owner Tom Brady and general manager John Spytek.

Minshew was originally signed to a two-year, $25 million contract last offseason, which included $15 million guaranteed and $3.16 million in guaranteed money for 2025. Releasing him will save the Raiders approximately $6.34 million against the salary cap, although they will still incur about $7.66 million in dead money.

The decision to part ways with Minshew comes as little surprise, as the Raiders have expressed interest in revamping their quarterback lineup following a disappointing 2024 season in which the team recorded a 2-7 record with Minshew as the starter. The former sixth-round draft pick struggled, posting a 9-to-10 touchdown-to-interception ratio.

Minshew, who was expected to serve as a bridge quarterback after signing with the Raiders, found himself back in the lead role after an initial spate of injuries took their toll on the team. However, he was sidelined with a collarbone injury after starting five games and returning briefly for four others.

“We appreciate Gardner’s contributions to the team but believe it’s time to explore new opportunities,” Brady said in a statement. “We are committed to finding the right fit for our offense moving forward.”

This decision continues a trend for the Raiders, who have been aggressive in their pursuit of a new starting quarterback. Previously, they attempted to trade for a high-profile veteran but were unsuccessful. Their new coaching triumvirate, which includes head coach Pete Carroll and offensive coordinator Chip Kelly, is poised for a major overhaul of the roster.

The Raiders currently have only one experienced quarterback on their roster, Aidan O’Connell, which means they will likely seek both a veteran and a rookie for the upcoming season.

Minshew has played for multiple teams in his career, including the Jacksonville Jaguars, Indianapolis Colts, and Philadelphia Eagles. Known for his ability to lead a team on the field, he may find interest from various franchises as the 2025 free agency period opens, especially given the scarcity of quality quarterbacks currently available.

As teams examine their quarterback situations heading into the draft, Minshew’s experience and ability to navigate an offense could make him a valuable asset as a backup option.
