Raiders Sign Tight End Ian Thomas in Free Agency Move

HENDERSON, Nev. – The Las Vegas Raiders have signed tight end Ian Thomas, the club announced Tuesday. The unrestricted free agent joins the Raiders after seven seasons with the Carolina Panthers.
Thomas, selected by the Panthers in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft, has appeared in 99 games and made 54 starts, totaling 119 receptions for 1,062 yards and four touchdowns. This move comes as the Raiders seek to strengthen their tight end position.
In the 2024 season, Thomas played five games and recorded two starts before being placed on the Reserve/Injured List. He achieved personal bests during his rookie year in 2018, achieving 36 receptions, 333 receiving yards, and two touchdowns. However, his production has declined in subsequent seasons, and he recorded just three catches for 7 yards in 2024.
A Baltimore native, Thomas played two seasons at Indiana University after transferring from Nassau Community College. He received All-Big Ten Honorable Mention in 2017, highlighting his talent as a receiver by scoring five touchdowns and averaging 15.0 yards per reception, ranking among the top tight ends nationally.
Thomas has been regarded as a player with strong potential, with NFL analyst Lance Zierlein noting his comparison to former NFL tight end Jermaine Gresham. Zierlein emphasized Thomas’s ability to serve as a versatile tight end capable of blocking effectively with further development.
As the Raiders look to bolster their roster during free agency, the signing of Thomas is part of their broader strategy to enhance the team’s offensive options. The official terms of the contract were not disclosed.
In addition to Thomas, the Raiders also signed defensive tackle Leki Fotu on Tuesday. Fotu, 26, has played 58 career games with the Arizona Cardinals and New York Jets, and he recorded notable statistics including 3.5 sacks and 92 tackles.
The Raiders are committed to strengthening their team ahead of the upcoming season, showcasing a determined approach to free agency and player signings. Fans can stay updated on all the latest transactions by following the team’s official channels.
