Rain Delays Supercross in Philadelphia as Riders Prepare for Epic Showdown

PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania — Heavy rain caused a delay at Lincoln Financial Field on April 12, 2025, ahead of the Supercross event. With the track still wet and tarped, officials adjusted the day’s schedule to accommodate drying time before the afternoon races.
Fans anticipated an exciting race as top riders including Cooper Webb, Chase Sexton, and Aaron Plessinger competed in the 450SX class amid challenging conditions. The rain had changed the track’s surface, leading many riders to expect a loose, rut-filled course similar to the recent Seattle event.
“The weather has definitely impacted our preparation,” said Bill Heras, Director of Operations. “The track is going to be unpredictable, which could lead to a thrilling race.”
Last weekend’s Foxborough Supercross showcased incredible performances despite treacherous weather, with Plessinger claiming victory in a muddied main event. Many fans primed for another intense showdown expressed excitement over the shifting competition landscape.
“I’m excited for today’s race,” said racing analyst Mitch Kendra. “Conditions are tough, and that opens the door for surprises from anyone on the track.”
As the day progressed, practice sessions were canceled but qualification was readjusted to start later in the afternoon. The opening ceremonies remained on schedule for 3:00 p.m. with hopes the conditions would improve.
The press day on Friday was disrupted due to inclement weather, forcing organizers to scramble to keep both teams and fans updated.
After riding in muddy conditions last weekend, racers like Chance Hymas and Aaron Plessinger are familiar with race-day challenges, but how they perform today remains uncertain.
In the 450SX class standings, Webb holds a narrow points lead over Sexton, with both aiming for top finishes to secure their championship ambitions. Plessinger’s win last week has added to the competitive mix.
“We are ready for anything,” said Plessinger. “These races can change in an instant, and staying focused will be key.”
Fans eagerly await today’s races, anticipating not just the main events but also the qualifying heats, which often set the stage for the main event drama.
The Philadelphia Supercross marks a continuation of the four-city Northeast tour and will be broadcasting live on multiple platforms, promising exciting coverage for those unable to attend in person.
