New Jersey Rainy Weather Forecast

Newark, NJ – Wednesday morning started rainy across most of New Jersey, prompting residents to grab their umbrellas. The steady rain is welcome news for the state, as it continues to struggle with an ongoing drought and concerns about wildfires.

The risk of severe weather remains low, with widespread flooding also unlikely. However, drivers may encounter some roadway ponding due to puddling. Rainfall totals could reach one to two inches.

As of 6 a.m. Wednesday, South Jersey had already reported an inch of rain. The wet conditions are expected to persist through the morning commute, gradually transitioning to spotty showers by midday.

Temperatures on Wednesday are predicted to hover around 60 degrees in the morning, only rising to the mid-60s by the afternoon. The sky will remain cloudy, with a breezy feel.

Tonight should be drier, though isolated showers are still possible. Low temperatures will dip to around the 60-degree mark. A more pleasant weather pattern is anticipated for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, with chances for showers or thunderstorms.

Thursday will see some sun breaking through the clouds, with temperatures reaching the low 70s in most areas. Outdoor activities should be manageable, though residents are advised to keep an eye on the sky.

Friday is expected to be warm and humid, with highs between 75 and 80 degrees. Spotty showers may develop during the midday to afternoon hours, but the rain won’t last all day.

The weekend appears promising, especially for Mother’s Day on Sunday, with sunny skies and mild temperatures in the upper 70s. However, strong winds and a cool air mass will sweep in, dropping temperatures by several degrees.

Meteorologist Dan Zarrow with Townsquare Media New Jersey emphasizes the importance of this rain for addressing the drought conditions in the state, and notes the significant changes in temperature expected through the weekend.
