Rajat Patidar To Make Test Debut For India In Second Test Against England

Rajat Patidar, a 30-year-old middle-order batsman from Indore in Madhya Pradesh, is set to make his Test debut for the Indian cricket team in the second Test against England at the Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. Patidar has been preferred over young Sarfaraz Khan for this crucial match.

In his cricketing journey, Patidar had initially aspired to be a fast bowler but was compelled to switch his focus to batting due to an ACL injury in 2014. Despite the setback, Patidar remained determined and now stands on the verge of living his dream of playing Test cricket for his country.

Following a successful recovery from an Achilles injury that required surgery in London, Patidar earned his maiden ODI cap during the recent South Africa tour. His consistent performances, including a stunning century against the England Lions, propelled him to the Test squad.

During his first net session with the national team in Visakhapatnam, Patidar had the opportunity to interact with experienced cricketers such as Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma, who shared their insights and experiences. These interactions have boosted Patidar’s confidence as he prepares to face the challenging English bowling attack.

Known for his aggressive batting style, Patidar has a strong technique and possesses the ability to take on spinners. A first-class average of 45.97 in 93 innings underscores his consistency and skill. By studying opposition bowlers and emulating the footwork and body movements of captains like Virat Kohli, Patidar has honed his game to thrive under pressure.

Alongside Patidar, Mumbai’s talented batsman Sarfaraz Khan has also been knocking on the doors of the Test team for some time. Sarfaraz, who boasts an outstanding average of 82.40 in first-class cricket since 2020, has finally received his call-up, becoming an integral part of the Indian team.

Both debutants, Patidar and Sarfaraz, have earned their places through hard work, determination, and patience. Their selection is a testament to their talent and the immense pride they bring to their families and the nation.

In other news, Avesh Khan has replaced Mohammed Siraj in the Indian squad for the upcoming Test. The decision to include Avesh Khan demonstrates the team’s commitment to maintaining a formidable bowling attack against England.
