VAN NUYS, Calif. – The Los Angeles Rams selected outside linebacker Josaiah Stewart from Michigan with the 90th overall pick in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft on April 25, 2025. At 6-foot-1 and 249 pounds, Stewart was recognized as a Second Team All-Big Ten player after closing the 2024 season with 8.5 sacks and 13 tackles for loss in just 11 games.

Stewart expressed his excitement during a tearful moment of joy when he received the call. “Everything that went into this moment, the people that were here supporting me… I’m just happy to be a Ram,” he said. He transferred from Coastal Carolina to Michigan before the 2023 season and became a leading player in sacks for the Wolverines, who had two first-round picks in the 2025 draft.

In his final season at Michigan, Stewart led the team with his impressive statistics while playing a vital leadership role as a captain. He attributes his development to his experience under NFL defensive coordinator Don Martindale, stating that their defensive scheme closely resembles that of the Rams, which will help his transition to the professional level.

“I learned how to be a pro at Michigan,” Stewart said. “It taught me what it means to win and how to play a role. I’m all about winning, so I’ll do whatever it takes.” His playful enthusiasm and eagerness to improve mark him as a perfect fit for the Rams’ defensive unit.

Stewart’s previous team camaraderie also helps ease his move to Los Angeles, where he’s only visited twice before. He mentioned he hadn’t checked his phone after the draft call due to the overwhelming number of congratulatory messages he received.

The support from his family was evident, especially during his emotional moment. “I don’t have enough words for my mom and everything she’s done. I’m just happy to make her proud,” he said, highlighting the role his family played in his journey.
