Rams Rookie Receiver Scores First Touchdown in London
LONDON — Los Angeles Rams rookie receiver Konata Mumpfield made the most of his second NFL catch during Week 7 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Mumpfield scored his first career touchdown on a five-yard pass from Matthew Stafford, contributing to the Rams’ strong start on their opening drive.
Mumpfield, a seventh-round draft pick from Pittsburgh, had only one previous catch for seven yards this season. With fellow receiver Puka Nacua sidelined due to an ankle injury, Mumpfield stepped up, a necessity noted by head coach Sean McVay earlier in the week.
“Konata has shown great maturity and skill in practice,” McVay said. “We knew he would need to rise to the occasion.” Mumpfield’s touchdown makes him the first Rams offensive rookie to score this season, an impressive feat considering that fellow draft picks Terrance Ferguson and Jarquez Hunter have yet to find the end zone.
During the first quarter, the Rams’ offense looked sharp, with Stafford utilizing a mix of tight ends and other receivers to drive down the field. This opening drive showcased a different strategy for the Rams, as key players like Nacua were unavailable.
As the Rams built a 14-0 lead in the early moments of the game, fans and analysts alike were buzzing with excitement. Mumpfield celebrated his touchdown using Cristiano Ronaldo’s signature ‘Siu’ celebration, marking a memorable moment in his young career.
“It feels great to contribute to the team,” Mumpfield said after the play. “I’m just here to do my job and help us win.” The Rams’ offense continued to shine, looking to maintain momentum as they faced off against the Jaguars in this international matchup at historic Wembley Stadium.
