Rams Secure Stafford for Two More Seasons Amid Contract Talks

LOS ANGELES, March 3, 2025 – The Los Angeles Rams and quarterback Matthew Stafford have forged a renewed agreement, ensuring Stafford’s position as the starting quarterback for the next two seasons following a constructive meeting last Friday.
Rams head coach Sean McVay, who previously expressed his desire to retain Stafford, referred to him as an “incredible player”. McVay expressed his contentment with the outcome of the discussions, stating during a press conference on Monday, “I’ve been sleeping better these last couple of days.” He added, “Couldn’t be more grateful. Really excited about it.”
While the detailed terms of the agreement are still confidential, McVay indicated that adjustments would be made to Stafford’s existing financial arrangements on a year-to-year basis. He stated, according to reports from The Athletic, that he expects similar conversations to continue in the future, confirming, “Stafford is still under contract with the Rams for only the next two seasons.” McVay also noted that while Stafford received a pay increase, no extra years were added to his contract.
The team’s hesitation to commit longer comes amid concerns of age-related performance decline. Amid this uncertainty, a significant question arises regarding the Rams’ future franchise quarterback. Given Stafford’s capabilities, the Rams are hopeful for a playoff run, which diminishes their chances of acquiring a high draft pick unless a costly trade-up occurs.
To further bolster the team’s morale, the Rams also re-signed left tackle Alaric Jackson last week. This series of positive developments has left McVay optimistic as the Rams transition into the 2025 offseason.
