Rams Secure Win Over Chargers In Preseason Match

The Los Angeles Rams claimed a narrow victory over the Los Angeles Chargers with a score of 13-9 during their preseason matchup on Saturday at SoFi Stadium.

Quarterback Stetson Bennett shone in the spotlight as he threw a decisive 47-yard touchdown pass to receiver JJ Laap late in the fourth quarter, securing the lead for the Rams. This followed his impressive performance the previous week against the Dallas Cowboys, where he demonstrated resilience despite some hiccups.

Bennett completed 17 of 31 passes for 213 yards, showcasing his growth from the previous game, where he struggled with turnovers. In this game, he did throw one interception, but it came during a critical moment, when the Rams were trying to score from the one-yard line.

Laap, an undrafted free agent from a small college, made the most of his opportunity by pulling off a spectacular catch, saying he’s been waiting for a moment like this throughout his life. He ended up with two receptions totaling 50 yards, helping the Rams move the ball downfield effectively.

Other young players also stood out, with wide receiver Xavier Smith playing a crucial role by making key catches and contributing on special teams. His involvement helped keep drives alive, particularly during the second half of the game.

On the defensive side, the Rams were impressive again, not allowing a touchdown for the second straight game. Safety Jason Taylor II and cornerback Jaylen McCollough each had standout performances, with McCollough securing an interception and forcing a fumble that changed the momentum of the game.

The Rams’ new kicker, Joshua Karty, demonstrated his skills by making two field goals, helping to keep the Rams in contention throughout the match. Although he missed a longer attempt, his overall performance was solid enough to solidify his spot on the roster.

This game also served as a good test for the Rams’ coaching staff. With head coach Sean McVay stepping back for this game, assistant head coach/pas game coordinator took the reins and successfully guided the team to victory.
