Rangers Analyst Joe Micheletti Retires After 19 Seasons

New York, NY – Joe Micheletti announced his retirement on Thursday, ending a 19-year career as an analyst for the New York Rangers on MSG Networks. Micheletti, 70, made the announcement through a press release, expressing gratitude for his time with the Rangers.
“From pond hockey in Minnesota, to the bright lights of Broadway, my hockey journey has been a magical ride,” Micheletti said in a statement. He further noted that he and his wife Kathy had considered retirement for a few years and felt now was the right time to step away and spend more time with family.
Micheletti began his role with MSG Networks in September 2006, after eight years as an analyst for the New York Islanders on MSG+. He has had an esteemed broadcasting career, covering five Winter Olympics, 25 Stanley Cup Finals, and 15 NHL All-Star games, starting with the St. Louis Blues radio team in 1985.
Throughout his career, Micheletti also played three seasons in the NHL for the Blues and Colorado Rockies. He won two national championships with the University of Minnesota and served as an assistant coach for the Blues.
Following Micheletti’s retirement announcement, there is no immediate replacement named. However, sources indicate potential candidates include former players Dave Maloney, Brian Boyle, and Ryan Callahan.
Andrea Greenberg, president and CEO of MSG Networks, praised Micheletti’s contributions, stating, “Joe’s experience as a player and coach, his good humor, his unparalleled preparation, his polished on-air skills, and his love of hockey combined to make him one of the hockey world’s premier analysts.”
Greenberg thanked Micheletti for his exceptional service over the years and wished him well in his retirement.
