Rangers Edge Senators in Crucial Eastern Conference Showdown
NEW YORK, N.Y. — The New York Rangers extended their point streak to nine games with a hard-fought victory over the Ottawa Senators at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night. The Rangers, now 24-18-4, defeated the Senators 4-3 in a tightly contested matchup that could have significant playoff implications for both teams.
The Rangers entered the game riding an 8-game point streak, having gone 5-0-3 in their previous eight contests. Their recent surge has kept them in the thick of the Eastern Conference playoff race, despite a disappointing start to the season. “We’re gaining momentum and confidence,” said Rangers head coach Gerard Gallant. “This team has shown resilience, and we’re starting to play the way we know we can.”
Ottawa, meanwhile, came into the game on a 5-0-1 stretch of their own, but couldn’t overcome the Rangers’ home-ice advantage. The Senators, now 22-20-4, remain in contention but missed an opportunity to gain ground in the standings. “It’s a tough loss, but we’ll learn from it,” said Senators captain Brady Tkachuk. “Every game matters at this point in the season.”
The game lived up to its billing as a closely contested affair, with both teams trading goals throughout the night. The Rangers ultimately prevailed thanks to a third-period power-play goal by Artemi Panarin, his 20th of the season. “It’s always special to score in front of our fans,” Panarin said. “We knew how important this game was, and we found a way to get it done.”
With the win, the Rangers improved to 13-7-2 at home this season, while the Senators fell to 10-12-2 on the road. Both teams will look to build on their recent form as the playoff race heats up in the coming weeks.
