Jack Butland Rangers Training Protective Padding

GLASGOW, Scotland — Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland is poised to make his comeback after a month-long absence due to injury, with the 30-year-old returning to training ahead of Thursday’s crucial match against his former club.

Butland, who spent Hogmanay in the hospital, missed six matches, including the Old Firm derby against Celtic. He was spotted at Auchenhowie training ground this week, wearing protective padding on his right thigh and showing no signs of discomfort during drills. Rangers’ medical staff closely monitored his warm-up, but no concerns were raised.

The English goalkeeper trained alongside fellow keepers Robby McCrorie and Mason Munn, signaling his readiness to reclaim his spot between the sticks. Butland’s absence saw 28-year-old Jon McLaughlin step in, delivering a clean sheet in his first Old Firm clash on January 2. McLaughlin also filled in during Butland’s paternity leave earlier in December.

Butland’s return is a significant boost for Rangers as they prepare for their upcoming match. His experience and form will be crucial as the team aims to maintain its competitive edge in the league.

In addition to Butland’s progress, Rangers also welcomed back midfielder Aaron Ramsey, who has been sidelined since October. While Ramsey’s return is a positive development, Thursday’s match may come too soon for the Welshman to feature.

Rangers fans will be eager to see Butland back in action, especially as the team continues its push for domestic and European success.
