Rangers Prepare for Crucial Matchup Against Capitals on Homestand Finale

NEW YORK, N.Y. — The New York Rangers will wrap up a four-game homestand with a pivotal Metropolitan Division clash against the Washington Capitals tonight at 7:30 PM ET, broadcasted on MSG and TNT with radio coverage on ESPN 880 AM. The Rangers are set to don their third jerseys for the occasion.
J.T. Miller has been a standout for the Rangers, tallying 14 points (7 goals, 7 assists) in 11 appearances. His recent form includes six multi-point games. Since January 18, Miller’s nine power play points have him tied for sixth in the NHL. The 2021-22 season also marked a milestone for Miller, as he became the only player in the league to achieve over 300 points and 600 hits.
“I just try to play my game,” Miller commented on his recent success. “If the points come, that’s great, but my focus is on helping the team win.”
Another key player, Mika Zibanejad, has been prolific as well, contributing 15 points (4 goals, 11 assists) in his last 11 outings. He ranks tied for fourth in the NHL with 15 points since February 1. Zibanejad’s performance becomes crucial during this timeframe, with the Rangers holding a 9-3-1 record when he scores this season.
“I feel good right now,” Zibanejad said. “It’s about building momentum as we head into the playoffs.”
Artemi Panarin has also been making waves, achieving 63 points (25 goals, 38 assists) this season. He has amassed 13 points in his last 13 games and holds the top spot on the Rangers’ roster in goals and points. His consistency this season—recording at least one point in 41 of his 59 games—demonstrates his pivotal role on the team.
“I just want to contribute,” Panarin stated. “Every point helps, especially now during this critical phase of the season.”
Further solidifying the Rangers’ roster is Vincent Trocheck, who ranks second in the NHL with a 59.8 faceoff percentage. Trocheck has recorded 39 points (17 goals, 22 assists) this season, showcasing significant offensive prowess while anchoring the team’s faceoff game.
Chris Kreider has also made headlines recently, recently tying for the most power play goals in franchise history. He currently stands at 116, sharing the record with Camille Henry. His career total of 50 game-winning goals ties him for second in Rangers history.
As the Rangers look to build on their successes, they recognize the importance of the upcoming game against the Capitals. Both teams are vying for playoff positioning, making tonight’s matchup crucial to their postseason aspirations.
“Every game matters at this point of the season. We need to play our best hockey,” Coach Gerard Gallant said in a pre-game press conference. “The Capitals are a tough opponent, and we need to be ready.”
With the stakes high and the home crowd behind them, the Rangers aim to conclude their homestand with a well-earned victory over a formidable rival.
