Rangers Rally to Snatch Victory from Dundee in Thrilling 4-3 Comeback

DUNDEE, Scotland — Rangers FC staged a remarkable comeback on Saturday, overcoming a two-goal deficit to defeat Dundee FC 4-3 in a Scottish Premiership match at Dens Park. The victory was sealed with a dramatic 93rd-minute goal from Cyriel Dessers, bouncing back from adversity after previously trailing 2-0 and 3-1.
The match began with Dundee’s Simon Murray scoring just two minutes in, capitalizing on a corner kick to give the home team an early lead. Rangers struggled to find their rhythm, and within 26 minutes, Dundee doubled their advantage when Joe Shaughnessy bundled in a goal following a mistake from goalkeeper Jack Butland.
Despite their woes, Rangers began to show signs of life. An own goal from Shaughnessy in the 57th minute renewed hope for the visitors, but just two minutes later, Scott Tiffoney restored a two-goal cushion for Dundee with a powerful shot from distance.
However, Rangers captain James Tavernier sparked the comeback with a stunning long-range effort in the 78th minute, followed by an equalizer from substitute Tom Lawrence shortly after, leveling the score at 3-3.
Finally, in the dying moments of the match, Dessers completed the turnaround, expertly lifting the ball over Dundee goalkeeper Trevor Carson to secure three critical points for Rangers. The win reflects a growing resilience in the squad, as interim manager Barry Ferguson noted in his post-match comments, “We’ve shown character, and when we got back to 3-3, I believed we could go on to win.”
Dundee manager Tony Docherty expressed disappointment in the post-match interview, stating, “Three goals should be enough to win a game. We’ve had more than enough opportunities to protect that lead.”
In statistical standout moments, Cyriel Dessers recorded an impressive 12 shots, the highest total for a player in the Premiership this season, showcasing his determination yet also highlighting missed opportunities during the match.
As Rangers look forward, Ferguson emphasized the need to correct lingering issues on the pitch, adding, “I need to get to the bottom of it…We can’t be happy with the performance, but we rolled our sleeves up and got the result.” Meanwhile, Dundee, despite playing well, remains in a precarious position, languishing at 11th in the league and needing to tighten their defense for future matches.
