Rangers Trade Pitcher Daniel Robert to Phillies for Enrique Segura

ARLINGTON, Texas — The Texas Rangers made an early morning trade with the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday. In the deal, the Rangers sent right-handed pitcher Daniel Robert to Philadelphia in exchange for right-handed pitcher Enrique Segura.
Robert, a 30-year-old from Hoover, Alabama, was designated for assignment earlier this week. He had been pitching at Triple-A Round Rock, where he recorded an impressive 1.54 ERA with two saves and 17 strikeouts this season. Despite his success in the minors, it became clear that he struggled to secure a spot in the Rangers’ Major League roster this year, having made four appearances with the team last season.
In return, the Rangers received 20-year-old Segura, who signed with the Phillies as an amateur free agent in early 2022. This season, he has pitched 17 innings at Single-A Clearwater, posting a 3.18 ERA and achieving 44 career appearances, with 36 starts. While Philadelphia benefits from Robert’s experience in its faltering bullpen, Texas adds a promising young pitcher to its development pipeline.
“Robert has been showing increased control and could help stabilize our bullpen,” said a Phillies spokesperson. In contrast, Segura’s future projection as a starter offers potential upside to the Rangers, even though he has not pitched above the Single-A level yet.
Robert will report to Triple-A Lehigh Valley as Philadelphia looks to bolster its bullpen depth while navigating roster moves in the coming days.
