Rare Tornado Watch Issued For Vermont, Severe Weather Warning Alarms Residents

The National Weather Service has placed the entire state of Vermont under a tornado watch until 8 p.m.

At around 2 p.m. on Sunday, it issued warnings for parts of Lamoille, Addison, Chittenden, and Washington counties — indicating a potential tornado threat.

Marlon Verasamy, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Burlington, advised residents in impacted areas to seek shelter immediately.

The potential for severe weather on Sunday is due to the interaction of a warm front followed by a cold front, explained Verasamy.

Parts of the state were also under severe thunderstorm warnings with the possibility of hail and high winds.

Vermont experiences tornado watches or warnings once or twice a year on average, according to Verasamy.

Verasamy urged the public to stay informed, monitor the forecast, and take precautions as needed.
