Ravens Select Kicker Tyler Loop Amid Justin Tucker Controversy

TEMPE, Arizona — The Baltimore Ravens selected kicker Tyler Loop from the University of Arizona with the 186th overall pick in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft on Saturday.
Loop, a standout from Lucas, Texas, has garnered attention for his kicking skills, particularly after finishing his college career with an 84 percent field goal conversion rate. Over five seasons at Arizona, he made 67 of 80 attempts and 126 of 128 extra points. In 2024, Loop was successful on 23 of 25 extra points and 18 of 23 field goal attempts. He notably set a school record with a 62-yard field goal.
The Ravens’ selection comes at a turbulent time for their veteran kicker, Justin Tucker. He is currently facing an investigation for allegations of sexual misconduct made by 16 Baltimore area massage therapists. Tucker has denied all accusations and stated he is cooperating with the investigation.
Last season, Tucker struggled on the field, hitting a career-low 73.3 percent of his attempts, while also missing two extra points. The Ravens, despite Tucker’s long-standing excellence as one of the NFL’s top kickers, appear to be considering a future without him.
Loop, who was the second kicker selected in this draft—following Miami’s Andres Borregales—was well-regarded at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. There, he converted 13 of 14 field goals, tying for the second-highest field goal completion rate.
With three years remaining on Tucker’s contract but no guaranteed money for 2025 and beyond, Baltimore seems prepared to move forward with Loop as the new option at kicker.
