Ravens Sign Cornerback Chidobe Awuzie to One-Year Deal

BALTIMORE, Md. — The Baltimore Ravens announced Tuesday the signing of cornerback Chidobe Awuzie to a one-year contract. The 29-year-old veteran joins the Ravens after a brief stint with the Tennessee Titans, where injuries limited his play last season.
Awuzie, an eight-year NFL player, has appeared in 94 games throughout his career, recording 395 total tackles, 66 passes defended, seven interceptions, and five forced fumbles. His experience includes four seasons with the Dallas Cowboys and three with the Cincinnati Bengals, where he was known for his solid performance in the secondary.
Last season, Awuzie only played eight games with the Titans due to a groin injury sustained in Week 3. After being released by Tennessee on March 15, he is now set to join a Ravens cornerback room that features established veteran Marlon Humphrey and promising rookies T.J. Tampa and Jalyn Armour-Davis.
The signing comes after the Ravens lost starter last offseason, leading them to seek experienced depth at the position. Awuzie’s addition is seen as a low-risk move for the franchise, especially given Tennessee’s responsibility for much of his salary this season.
“We feel confident that Chido will bounce back from his injury,” Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said. “He has a track record of success and brings leadership to our young cornerbacks.”
Awuzie initially joined the Titans on a three-year, $36 million deal, but due to injuries, he was unable to maintain his starting position after returning to play in Week 14 against the Jaguars. Notably, he recorded his first interception with the Titans during that game, suggesting he might still be capable of making important contributions on the field.
Previously, during his time with the Bengals, Awuzie managed to allow a passer rating of just 80.7 when targeted, establishing himself as a reliable cornerback despite inconsistency in the Bengals’ overall defensive line-up.
“Going to Baltimore is a great opportunity for me to prove myself again,” Awuzie commented during his introductory press conference. “I’m excited about the competitive environment and the chance to contribute to a winning team.”
The Ravens will count on Awuzie to strengthen their secondary as they prepare for the upcoming 2025 season. Given his experience and previous success in the league, he aims to reclaim his spot as a starting cornerback.
