Rayo Vallecano Prepares for Crucial Match Against Mallorca
Rayo Vallecano‘s coach, Iñigo Pérez, provided insight into the team’s preparation for its upcoming La Liga match against Mallorca, to be held in Son Moix. Speaking to the press following the international break, Pérez highlighted the rigorous schedule and its advantages for the team’s current form. He stated, “This format of playing 4-5 games followed by a short break allows our players to relax mentally before gearing up for the next phase.”
Pérez also discussed forward Sergio Camello, explaining that while he has had a promising start, there is room for improvement. “Sergio is a joy and a lot of fun, well-loved by the group,” Pérez commented, adding that Camello is working on developing an “instinct” characteristic of successful forwards.
Reflecting on Mallorca as opponents, Pérez acknowledged their dynamic and agile attack under Jagoba Arrasate’s management, along with the strong defensive structure established by former coach Javier Aguirre. “They play comfortably and score goals, looking to bounce back after their loss to Espanyol,” he noted.
Despite Rayo’s strong position — they are ninth in the table with 13 points from five unbeaten matches — Pérez emphasized focusing on the immediate game without dwelling too much on standings. He described the strategy as “keeping it simple,” concentrating on securing points game by game.
Regarding team selection, Pérez mentioned that with virtually everyone fit and available following international duties, including Andrei Ratiu and James Rodríguez, competition for places is fierce. “James arrived late from international duty but is fit to play,” he said, acknowledging the player’s need for rest following long travels.
Rayo Vallecano fans, noted for their passionate support, are eager to see their team perform in Vallecas. Pérez praised their enthusiasm, saying, “The Rayo fans are eager to witness some joyful football and their support is necessary for our success.”
