RCB’s Salt Falls Short in IPL Clash Against Delhi Capitals

BENGALURU, India — Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) opener Phil Salt faced an unexpected dismissal during a thrilling match against the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on April 8. The incident occurred on the penultimate ball of the fourth over, shifting the momentum towards DC.
Salt’s explosive innings came to an abrupt end when he attempted a quick single off an Axar Patel delivery. After hitting the ball to extra cover, Salt took off running, but captain Virat Kohli hesitated before denying the run. Salt was forced to turn back but slipped, leading to a crucial wicket for the Capitals.
At the time of the incident, RCB was positioned at 64 runs for one wicket in just five overs, with Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal at the crease. The dismissal marked a significant turning point in the match, allowing DC to capitalize on RCB’s momentary lapse.
In an exclusive post-match interview, Kohli stated, “We need to communicate better between the wickets. Every run counts in this format, and we cannot afford to lose wickets carelessly.” The loss of Salt was particularly distressing as he had been making significant contributions at the top of the order.
With the stakes high in the tournament, Salt’s unfortunate dismissal and RCB’s subsequent performance will be under scrutiny as they push to secure a playoff spot. More updates on the ongoing matches will follow soon.
