Real España Takes Lead in Liga Nacional After Jornada 9

San Pedro Sula, Honduras — A new leader has emerged at the top of the Torneo Clausura 2025 as Real España overtook Olimpia on Saturday during the start of Jornada 9. The jornada kicked off with an exciting 3-3 draw between Marathón and Lobos UPNFM at Estadio Yankel Rosenthal, followed by a convincing 3-0 win for Real España over Olancho FC.

Real España now holds the top spot in the league with 22 points after their victory in Danlí, while Olimpia stands second with 19 points. With a crucial match against Génesis of Comayagua slated for Sunday, Olimpia will look to reclaim the lead in the closing match of the first round of the tournament.

After the draw, Lobos UPNFM remain in the fight, sitting in fourth place with 12 points. Just behind them are Génesis FC and another team with 11 points apiece. At the lower end of the table, Real Sociedad and UPNFM both have 4 points each. The fight against relegation continues fiercely, with Lobos UPNFM having attained 25 points, seven ahead of Real Sociedad, who competes on Sunday against Juticalpa FC.

In the previous eight jornada matches, progress in the league became evident. The matchup on February 23 concluded with a narrow 1-0 victory for León over another team, positioning them as the single leader of the league with 19 points before the last week of the first round.

Real España’s journey has been successfully paved by their coach Jeaustin Campos, who is keen on future competitions in the Concacaf Champions League. Campos expressed satisfaction after their latest win against Juticalpa FC, emphasizing the importance of maintaining consistency as the team strives to continue their winning streak.

“It was important to control the game, especially in the first half. We should have increased our lead during that period,” Campos noted. “Juticalpa is well-structured, which makes their fight against relegation surprising. We’re focused on our goals, and today we’re in a good position after this victory,” he added, making clear that the team’s aim is to secure their spot for international competition.
