Real Madrid Aims for Victory Against Alaves Amidst Challenges

VITORIA-GASTEIZ, Spain — Real Madrid is set to face Deportivo Alaves on Sunday at the Estadio de Mendizorroza in a crucial LaLiga clash that could impact their title hopes. After suffering consecutive defeats, the Los Blancos are in need of a victory to regain momentum ahead of their upcoming Champions League quarterfinal match against Arsenal.
Real Madrid’s manager Carlo Ancelotti emphasized the importance of this match during a pre-game press conference. He stated, “I want to see a Madrid that is capable of getting back our good feelings. It’s clear that everyone is thinking about Wednesday’s match, but that depends on tomorrow’s performance. We’re still in the fight for the league, we have to play well and win.”
With Barcelona recently extending their lead in LaLiga to four points, Real Madrid can’t afford any further slip-ups. The team is expected to make some changes in their lineup, with the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr. anticipated to start against Alaves. Turkish talent Arda Guler and Brazilian forward Endrick are also projected to feature prominently.
“We have talked about giving a good performance tomorrow and trying to win,” Ancelotti added, noting the significance of securing three points to boost confidence ahead of the midweek European fixture.
Alaves enters the match in a precarious 17th position, just above the relegation zone. Their recent performance includes a vital 1-0 victory over Girona, but they are grappling with player suspensions that could hinder their efforts against the formidable Madrid side.
Eduardo Coudet, Alaves’ coach, will miss several key players, including goalkeeper Antonio Sivera and midfielder Jon Guridi, who are suspended. However, defender Nahuel Tenaglia is back and will likely bolster the defensive lineup.
Despite being two points clear of the drop zone, Alaves has struggled with discipline on the field. They will rely heavily on veteran striker Kike Garcia, who has been their standout performer with 11 goals this season.
Real Madrid’s projected starting lineup features Thibaut Courtois in goal, supported by a defense of Lucas Vazquez, Raul Asencio, Aurelien Tchouameni, and Fran Garcia. The midfield trio includes Eduardo Camavinga, Luka Modric, and Federico Valverde. Up front, the attacking trio is expected to include Rodrygo, Arda Guler, and Kylian Mbappe.
“This match is not just about the points; it’s about restoring our confidence after a difficult week,” said Ancelotti, as he navigates speculation about his future with the club amid recent underperformances.
Real Madrid fans are hopeful that a commanding performance against Alaves will set the tone for their crucial Champions League rematch, as they aim to turn their fortunes around both in the league and Europe.
