Franco Mastantuono River Plate Transfer

Madrid, Spain — Real Madrid has formally announced the signing of Franco Mastantuono from River Plate. The 17-year-old midfielder will join the Spanish club on a six-year contract, starting August 14, 2025, a day before River Plate’s Copa Libertadores match against Libertad.

Mastantuono’s transfer fee set a record in Argentine football, totaling €63.2 million ($65 million), with River receiving €45 million ($48 million) as part of his release clause. The rest of the fee includes taxes and distribution to various football associations.

In recent weeks, Madrid had negotiations with Mastantuono’s representatives. Reports suggested that Paris Saint-Germain also expressed interest, but sources revealed Mastantuono’s preference to play in Madrid.

The teenager is the third player to join Real Madrid this summer, following Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dean Huijsen. Mastantuono debuted for River Plate in January 2024 at age 16 and quickly became a standout player, recording 10 goals and seven assists in 61 appearances.

Holding dual citizenship in Italy and Argentina, Mastantuono has also made waves internationally, earning a call-up from Argentina’s coach Lionel Scaloni for World Cup qualifiers.

He is currently competing in the 2025 Club World Cup in the United States with River Plate, but will officially transition to Madrid after the tournament. Reports from both clubs indicate that his current focus remains on performing well for River.

Real Madrid is looking to bolster its roster with more young talents like Mastantuono. His versatile playing style allows him to contribute as an attacking midfielder or winger, making him an exciting addition to the squad.

Mastantuono’s future looks promising, and fans are eager to see how he will develop at Madrid. He joins a lineup that includes emerging stars such as Vinícius Júnior and Rodrygo.
