Real Salt Lake Looks to Bounce Back Against Winless LA Galaxy

HERRIMAN, Utah (April 4, 2025) – Real Salt Lake (2-4-0, 6 points) will host the LA Galaxy (0-4-2, 2 points) Saturday afternoon at America First Field, seeking to reverse its fortunes after a two-game losing streak. The match will kick off at 2:30 p.m. MT and will be broadcast on Apple TV+ / MLS Season Pass.
Real Salt Lake endured a challenging start to the 2025 season, sitting 11th in the Western Conference and 22nd in the overall MLS Shield standings. Head Coach Pablo Mastroeni‘s team is looking to capitalize on its home advantage, where it holds a nearly 70% winning percentage over the past 16 years in Sandy.
Prior to Saturday’s match, RSL will honor midfielder Diego Luna at the Utah Sports Commission’s Governor’s State of Sport Awards ceremony, highlighting his recent achievements, including earning an assist and the game-winning goal in the team’s last victory against Houston on March 15.
RSL’s recent performance has been troubling, with the team failing to score in five consecutive halves after losses to FC Dallas and Minnesota. The team will welcome back Australian striker Ari Piol, who returns from suspension, and Spanish rookie Jesus Barea could make his home debut after playing 45 minutes in a recent match against Minnesota.
Despite setbacks, RSL has historically been resilient under Mastroeni, who has witnessed his team bounce back from losses in 12 consecutive scenarios throughout his 147 games in charge since 2021. RSL managed just a sole home victory against Seattle in their MLS opener and has suffered three losses at America First Field this season.
Last year was a high point for RSL, as the team finished third in the Western Conference with a record-setting 59 points and an all-time scoring high of 65 goals. This year, the franchise is focused on achieving its fifth consecutive postseason berth. Mastroeni, who recently achieved his 50th win as head coach with RSL, previously led the team to better road performances in the last two seasons, accumulating second-most road points in franchise history in 2023.
RSL will face the Galaxy, who have yet to win this season and have historically performed well in their visits to America First Field. The last two years saw the Galaxy win in Utah during the regular season, though RSL managed to defeat them in the U.S. Open Cup last year.
With the anticipated arrival of the LA Galaxy, Coach Mastroeni and his squad are keen to turn the tide and regain their footing in the 2025 season. The match presents an opportunity for RSL to regroup and demonstrate their character and resilience in front of their home fans.
