DOHA, Qatar — Slovak tennis player Rebecca Sramkova defeated Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina 6-2, 6-3 on Monday in the second round of the Qatar Total Energies Open at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex. With this win, Sramkova, ranked No. 46, advances to face Russian Mirra Andreeva, the No. 12 seed, in her next match.

Sramkova’s performance on the court showcased her strong baseline play and tactical prowess. She capitalized on Kalinina’s errors, controlling the points and putting pressure on her opponent from the outset. “I felt really good on the court today, and I stuck to my game plan,” said Sramkova after the match.

The Qatar Total Energies Open, a WTA 1000 event with a prize pool of USD 3,664,963, continues to highlight fierce competition among top-ranked players.

Other results from the second round on Monday included 33rd-ranked Linda Noskova, who won against No. 15 seed Donna Vekic 6-2, 6-4. Noskova will next play the winner of the match between Kazakhstan’s Yulia Putintseva and Japan’s Moyuka Uchijima.

Sofia Kenin, who entered the tournament as a wildcard and ranked No. 73, defeated Ashlyn Krueger 6-4, 6-4 and will face American qualifier Alycia Parks in the next round. Kenin cited her determination as a key factor in her victory. “I really focused on each point and didn’t let distractions get to me,” she noted.

No. 10 seed Daria Kasatkina had an impressive performance as well, winning 6-0, 6-0 against Polina Kudermetova. Kasatkina, currently ranked No. 12, will meet Armenian Elina Avanesyan next. “I played with confidence, and I’m looking forward to my next match,” Kasatkina commented.

The tournament at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex continues with many exciting matches ahead as players jockey for positions in the later rounds.
