BOSTON, MA — The Boston Red Sox are demoting infielder Kristian Campbell to Triple-A Worcester as he faces a significant slump during the 2025 season. Campbell, who started strong as the team’s second baseman, has struggled offensively since late April.

After hitting well for the first month, with a .301 batting average, Campbell’s performance took a downturn. In May and June, he managed to hit only .159, along with a .243 on-base percentage. His fielding also suffered, leading to seven errors, among the highest in the American League.

This move comes shortly after the Red Sox made headlines by trading All-Star Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants. The team hopes that a stint in Worcester will allow Campbell to regain his confidence and adjust to major league play.

Campbell originally entered the 2025 season as Boston’s No. 3 prospect, following Roman Anthony and Marcelo Mayer. Despite his current struggles, the 22-year-old has shown potential, having been a top prospect after an impressive performance in the minor leagues, where he slashed .330/.439/.558 last season.

The Red Sox currently hold a record of 39-37, finding themselves 4.5 games behind the New York Yankees in the American League East. The team faces a challenging schedule ahead and needs to get back on track to remain competitive.

Red Sox management is optimistic that Campbell’s time in Triple-A will help refine his skills and prepare him for a successful return to the majors.
