Trevor Story Boston Red Sox Shortstop

BOSTON, MA — Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora announced Sunday that he would not sit Trevor Story for a reset, keeping him in the lineup as the team prepares to face the Milwaukee Brewers in a three-game series. Story, who has struggled at the plate, will play shortstop and bat seventh on Monday at American Family Field.

Story’s slump has lasted over a month, with the veteran infielder hitting just .126 (14-for-111) since April 22. During this stretch, he has one home run, six RBIs, and an alarming 39 strikeouts against only six walks.

Cora opted to rest another struggling player, Ceddanne Rafaela, giving him a day off. Kristian Campbell will take over in center field, while David Hamilton starts at second base. Marcelo Mayer is set to play third base for a third consecutive game, filling in for the injured Alex Bregman.

The Red Sox will rely on ace Garrett Crochet, who has a 4-3 record and a 1.98 ERA, to go deep into the game as the bullpen has been taxed recently.

The first pitch between the Red Sox and Brewers is scheduled for 2:10 p.m. ET. Coverage will be available on NESN. The Red Sox’s lineup for the game includes Jarren Duran, Rafael Devers, Carlos Narváez, Kristian Campbell, Wilyer Abreu, Marcelo Mayer, Trevor Story, Abraham Toro, and David Hamilton.

Meanwhile, the Brewers, who are currently 26-28, will start pitcher Chad Patrick with a 2-4 record and a 3.23 ERA. As the teams clash, the game promises to be a vital moment for both clubs in the tight National League standings.
