Red Sox’s Story Powers Lineup as Crochet Faces Former Team

BOSTON, MA — Trevor Story returns to the cleanup spot for the Boston Red Sox on Saturday as they face the Chicago White Sox at Fenway Park. After a standout performance on Friday night, where he hit two three-run homers and drove in six RBIs, Story looks to continue his momentum in the second game of a four-game series against fellow righty Shane Smith.
Manager Alex Cora has made a notable adjustment to the lineup, switching Story to the fourth position, a spot he has filled for only the second time this season. Previously, Triston Casas and Wilyer Abreu occupied the cleanup spot, but Cora is keen to maximize Story’s current form. Abreu will bat fifth, followed by Kristian Campbell and Casas in sixth and seventh respectively.
Story’s recent surge has been impressive; he’s hitting .364 with a 1.003 OPS this April, going 24-for-66, with 14 RBIs, 5 home runs, and 4 stolen bases. After a slow start to the season, hitting just 2-for-15, he has played a crucial role in reviving the Red Sox offense over the past week.
On the mound, lefty Garrett Crochet, who previously pitched for the White Sox, will make his second start against them in just six days. Last Sunday, Crochet nearly achieved a no-hitter, taking it into the eighth inning before allowing a hit. With a record of 2-1 and an impressive 1.38 ERA, he has struck out 28 batters across 26 innings in four starts this season.
The Red Sox enter Saturday’s game riding a three-game winning streak, looking to improve their record to 12-10. They currently stand over .500 at 11-10. The match is set for a 4:10 p.m. ET first pitch, broadcasted live on NESN and available on radio via WEEI 93.7 FM.
The pitching matchup for Saturday has Shane Smith (0-1, 2.04 ERA) starting for the White Sox, while Crochet will take the mound for Boston.
