Boston Red Sox Vs Milwaukee Brewers

BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox faced another tough defeat on Wednesday, losing 6-5 to the Milwaukee Brewers in extra innings at American Family Field. This marked their second consecutive loss in extra frames, leaving the team searching for answers.

Boston committed three critical errors during the game, with Nick Sogard misplaying a slow roller, which could have been an easy out. This misplay allowed Milwaukee to capitalize, ultimately leading to a run. Kristian Campbell also struggled, making an errant throw to home plate that allowed a Brewer to score and let other runners advance. Justin Slaten’s challenges continued as he fell behind every batter he faced, culminating in a game-ending sacrifice fly.

“We didn’t play well today,” said Red Sox manager Alex Cora after the game, according to NESN. “The score was the score, but we walked the leadoff guy, we didn’t cover first, we dropped a fly ball in left, we got thrown out at third, we made a bad play at the end. I think the score will say it was a good baseball game, but we didn’t play well today.”

Cora expressed frustration but noted that changes to the roster may not happen quickly. “We have to be better, from top to bottom, from the manager to the players,” he added. “It’s close in games and all that, but we have to find ways to win games. That’s it. It’s not early anymore, so we know who we are and we know what we have on the roster. That isn’t going to change.”

Wednesday’s game included other notable developments: Alex Bregman was placed on the injured list, contributing to Bologna’s season-worst five-game losing streak. The Red Sox have struggled in one-run games, losing 15 so far this season, the most in baseball.

Hunter Dobbins made his first career relief appearance for Boston but was tagged for two runs during his inning of work. Meanwhile, Wilyer Abreu managed to tie the game with a key hit in the seventh, demonstrating his impressive performance, which puts him on pace for 38 home runs this season.

The Red Sox now look to regroup as they head on the road for their next series against the Atlanta Braves, starting Friday at Truist Park. The game is set to begin at 7:15 p.m. ET, with coverage on NESN starting an hour before first pitch.
