Red Sox Trade for Catcher Danny Jansen from Blue Jays
The Boston Red Sox are making moves as they look to strengthen their team. They are finalizing a trade to acquire catcher Danny Jansen from the Toronto Blue Jays, according to a source who spoke to MLB.com’s Ian Browne.
As part of this deal, an infielder will be included in a three-player package headed to the Blue Jays, as reported by MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand. However, neither team has officially confirmed the trade yet.
Danny Jansen has been with the Blue Jays organization for twelve years, dating back to when he was drafted in the sixteenth round of the 2013 Draft. Over these years, he has become a well-respected figure in the team, known for his hard work with pitchers and his development as a hitter.
“The biggest thing you want in a catcher is a bulldog back there, and that’s Danny through and through,” said Blue Jays pitcher Kevin Gausman. Gausman praised Jansen’s gritty playing style, saying he’s the kind of teammate who thrives in tough situations.
Since starting his Major League career, Jansen has focused on his power-hitting ability, particularly aiming to hit fastballs out of the park. Though he has had a tough time staying healthy, missing significant games due to various injuries, his potential keeps him in demand.
Currently, Jansen holds a batting average of .212 with six home runs and a .671 OPS. Even though these numbers may not stand out, he brings a lot of value to any team he plays for. At just 29 years old, he is also expected to be one of the top catchers available during the offseason.
